I take my brunch very seriously and Modern Pantry doesn’t disappoint.
Modern Pantry is a modern casual dining space serving breakfast, lunch & dinner throughout the week & weekend located in Clerkenwell- just down the road for our Farringdon office. The restaurant is housed in two Georgian buildings, the larger of the two was originally part of a steel foundry, while the other was once a townhouse.
The space is gorgeous and comfortable with a Scandi-chic interior and loads of light coming through the windows. I was lucky enough to attend on a sunny day so was seated outside in the spacious outdoor terrace in the charming St. Johns Square.
A quick look at the Saturday brunch menu revealed a mix of classic dishes paired with interesting flavours; fresh fruit salads are jazzed up with lime and rose lime syrup, and Asian seasonings such as tamarind and miso are used to marinate their onglet steak.
I decided on the eggs benedict with tea smoked salmon, topped with yuzu hollandaise, hazelnut & macadamia dukkah. The eggs were perfectly poached atop doughy sourdough English muffins, covered in a creamy, citrusy hollandaise sauce. The hollandaise sauce infused with yuzu, an Asian citrus fruit, added an innovate twist to this classic breakfast and made it a winner dish for me.
The environment was very relaxed but with outstanding professional service, so it’s a perfect spot for a casual business breakfast or mellow brunch with friends. There’s so many items on the menu I’m still dying to try so will definitely be back soon for a weekday brekkie!
